Neill Blomkamp concept art shows Sigourney Weaver back in the role of Ripley.

The latest Instagram post also reveals possible new plot details

The South African-Canadian director is busy working on the fifth instalment of the hit sci-fi franchise, which will reportedly come close to continuing where James Cameron’s popular 1986 chapter Aliens left off and ignore sequels Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, in a similar vein to recent revivals Jurassic World and Terminator Geniysys.

Sigourney Weaver was confirmed return in the lead as Ellen Ripley earlier this year and is pictured in one of Blomkamp’s Instagram artworks along with Michael Biehn as Corporal Dwayne Hicks.

Ripley and Hicks are seen standing in front of a futuristic soldier who has a South Korean flag on his shoulder, suggesting he may awork for a different company to the British-Japaense multinational Weyland -Yutani Corporation of previous movies, but little else has been revealed at this early stage.

“I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of Aliens,” Blomkamp told Sky Movies. “So it’s Alien, Aliens and then this movie.”

Blomkamp, known for Chappie and Elysium, is keeping the title under wraps, but has said that Ridley Scott “likes the idea of what he wants to make”.

Scott will be a producer on the new film after directing the original Alien in 1979.
